By the way, great comment Hugh.

The irony of Avis dropping their 'We Try Harder' line is in fact due to the reason they no longer do try harder. I continue to be underwhelmed by them. The new try harder company?: Enterprise. Go see them. The kids there act like they own the business. You WANT to rent from them.

This campaign could backfire and put off the very market segment Avis seeks to re-engage.

The businessmen depicted are the stereotypical old skool 'snake oil' sales road warriors from a culture and time that referred to clients as 'muppets'

I fear Avis will have to try even harder or else will become stars in their own disaster epic 'Lost in space'.
